STOP SPLITTING MY COUNTRY!!!
That's it in a nutshell. I could just stop typing there, but where's the fun in that.
I've watched a little bit of the Baltimore issues on TV and heard a little bit on the radio. I'm not going to claim that I know every detail, but I can tell you that there's some things that have really frustrated me.
Here's what I understand...
Freddie Gray, a guy with a crime sheet longer than my longer than a roll of toilet paper, was spotted with a knife that police thought to be a switchblade (which for some stupid reason is illegal in Baltimore).
The police tried to stop him, but he ran.
The police chased.
The police caught him.
Now, at some time, they realize that Freddie Gray doesn't have a switchblade, but they still decide to arrest him.
Gray is cuffed and he kicks and screams while being loaded into a police van.
Later, Gray is injured and dies of his injury while in police custody.
Who is at fault?
If it was that easy, there wouldn't be controversy, would there?
I watched a very proud police chief speak in front of a live television audience about how their super awesome (paraphrased) investigative team determined the number of stops the van took before reaching the police department. That tells me that even the police chief didn't trust the arresting officers/driver of the van because either they lied or they're just not smart enough to figure out how to count to 4.
During one of their 4 stops, they detain another person who claimed he heard Gray through the walls making noise as though he was trying to hurt himself.
So here we have it, a bunch of geniuses, trying to figure out what happened. A criminal who may or may not have been trying to hurt himself. An officer trying to uphold a stupid law. A driver (police officer) who doesn't know or lied about how many stops he made. And a fragile country being torn at the seams. And for the fun of it, let's throw Michael Moore who's trying to disarm cops (firearms weren't used in the injury of Freddie Gray) and let criminals loose on the streets.
And we can't forget the mayor of Baltimore who's so afraid of the streets she serves that she lives outside the city limits in a gated community. Or Al Sharpton who stepped in to undermine the mayor because it gives him a chance to show off his shiny new suit.
Did I miss anything?
Honestly America, is this worth tearing our country apart for? Don't get me wrong, I value American lives and Freddie Gray is an American that I and many other military service members/veterans have or would have died for, but rioting and looting??? FOR WHAT?
Seriously, what good does it do for Freddie Gray or the police officers to break into a local store and steal their toilet paper? You've just taken a strong stance in stupidity. That's right I said it... If you're rioting and looting in your local community, YOU ARE STUPID!!!
Those business owners provide a service to your community. They provide products. They provide much needed American jobs. If you owned a business in Baltimore, would you stay there?
According to a fortune.com article, "Baltimore is the largest American city without a single Fortune 500 company." Well, I guess that answers my question.
I honestly don't have a problem with the police officers being charged. That's the way our system works. Somebody is accused of a crime, they're charged with the crime. They have a right to a jury of their peers to determine guilt or innocence. Don't forget, we live in a society where you (even Freddie Gray) are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If this comes down to mob rule, which is what the stupid rioters and looters are, our country will have taken a major step in the wrong direction. And after what has happened to our country over the past several years, we can't afford another step that way!
My solution? Glad you asked...
Charge the police officers with negligence and murder... see if it holds in a court of law--if nothing else, fire them for either not being truthful in the number of stops they made or for being so stupid that they can't even count to four.
Charge the cowardly mayor with negligence and dereliction of duty (for ordering the cops to stand down while THUGS destroyed the city she represents, but refuses to live in... see if it holds in a court of law--if nothing else, fire her and find somebody who won't hide behind Al Sharpton.
Charge the THUGS who destroyed or stole during their free reign on the city (every single one of them)... see if it holds in a court of law.
So there you have it. I think I've gotton myself in trouble with people from all sides, and I'm OK with that.
Bottom line it this.
Our country is falling apart from the inside out. I don't know if it's the threat of terrorism or the threat of not being able to be a public figure anymore, but our leaders are weak. Forgive me, our leaders are straight up cowards!
We have idiots running in our streets demanding mob rule.
We have American patriots who love this country sitting idly by, cowering in their basements afraid to say what needs to be said for fear of being "labeled" a label they probably deserve... like patriot!
We have a government that rolls over the people it's supposed to serve (remember mr. gov't, you work for me!)
We have the constitution of the United States. If we could only uphold the standards that made our country great, we could be a great country again.
Isn't it time we gave America a chance?
